Hi there,
This issue's saving: pay in the local currency
Abroad, card machines and ATMs often ask whether you'd like to be charged in US dollars. It sounds helpful. It usually isn't: the exchange rate they use is typically worse than your card's. Choose the local currency every time.
More in Cards and cash abroad.
A fee to watch for
Hotel parking. It's often not included in the total, and in cities it can cost more per night than you'd expect. Check before you book, and compare with a nearby garage. See Hotel and rental fees, explained.
A free idea
Look up your destination's tip-based walking tours. They're a great first-day introduction to a city, and you decide what to pay at the end.
Safe travels,
